The second season of “Ozark” is right around the corner, and stars Jason Bateman, Laura Linney and Julia Garner were on hand to talk about the show during Netflix’s Sunday sessions at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, currently underway in Bevelry Hills.
In advance of the panel, Netflix showed critics a tense, taut new trailer for the upcoming season (above).
“In its much-anticipated second season, ‘Ozark’ continues to follow Marty Byrde and his family as they navigate the murky waters of life within a dangerous drug cartel,” reads the Netflix synopsis. “With Del out, the crime syndicate sends their ruthless attorney Helen Pierce to town to shake things up just as the Byrdes are finally settling in. Marty and Wendy struggle to balance their family interests amid the escalating dangers presented by their partnerships with the power-hungry Snells, the cartel and their new deputy, Ruth Langmore, whose father Cade has been released from prison. The stakes are even higher than before and the Byrdes soon realize they have to go all in before they can get out.”
Speaking at the press tour, Bateman discussed the importance of upping the ante in the new season.
“The writers understand the audience deserves an escalation,” Bateman said. “If there’s gonna be more episodes, you don’t want redundancies… The demand is high to keep bringing it.”
“Ozark” season 2 debuts on Friday, Aug. 31.
