Around 1,500 dolphins can be seen playing with a baby humpback whale and its mother in stunning drone footage.
The bird eye view video shows the dolphins ‘snout ridingâ the humpbacks, by surfing the waves in front of them.
The dolphins intentionally swim and splash close to their faces so the humpbacks lunge forward and create waves in the water.
Nancy Black, marine biologist at Montery Bay Whale Watch explained: ‘The dolphins seem to really enjoy this and the whales arenât really bothered.â
The video was filmed off the coast near California during a whale- watching trip on 14 May.
Black estimates that there were about 1,500 Pacific white-sided dolphins and Northern right whale dolphins.
Dolphin calves could also be spotted in the group.
Black believes the baby humpback was born off the coast of Mexico about four months ago.
