Astronomers have discovered a strange new source.

The Hubble telescope discovered a mysterious infrared source relatively close to the Sun. It is connected with a neutron star, but the size does not allow scientists to understand its nature.

This writes the Chronicle.info with reference to rambler.ru.

Outer space is full of unusual signals and sources of radiation, the nature of which is still not clear astrophysicists. Example – the so-called fast radio bursts (Fast Radio Bursts – FRB), the powerful millisecond flares of radio emission occurring at several thousand times a day, but still remaining a mystery.

Now astronomers have discovered a strange new source, this time in infrared (heat) range of the electromagnetic radiation. He discovered by scientists using the Hubble space telescope in the vicinity of the neutron star located in the relative vicinity of the Sun, about 800 light-years. Strange radiation was discovered by group of researchers under the leadership of the University of Pennsylvania (USA) in collaboration with Turkish scientists. The study of the radiation source will help to better understand the evolution of neutron stars – extremely dense objects that remain in place of supernova explosions.

“This particular neutron star belongs to the group of seven nearby x-ray pulsars, the so – called Magnificent seven (astronomers believe that the young single neutron star with strong magnetic field) that are hotter than would have to be, given their age and the energy generated by braking,” explained Bettina Posselt, Professor of astronomy at the University of Pennsylvania, the author of the article in The Astrophysical Journal. – We found a wide area of infrared radiation around this neutron star RX J0806.4-4123, the length of which is about 200 astronomical units (2.5 distance from the Sun to Pluto) from a pulsar”.

Astronomers first discovered a neutron star that is associated with such an extended source of radiation, and only in the infrared range.

Based on previous observations, astronomers believe they see a much more intense infrared radiation than can come from this neutron star.
