The National Republican Congressional Committee and corporate donors have pulled their support from Iowa Rep. Steve King’s reelection campaign against Democratic candidate J.D. Scholten. The recent controversy over King’s history of making racist statements has made it difficult for him to secure endorsements from others in his own party. Even President Trump, who is campaigning heavily for Republicans, isn’t backing King in any significant way. (Read more)

Georgia Democratic gubernatorial nominee Stacey Abrams defended herself against Trump’s assertion that she is not qualified to be governor “by any stretch of the imagination” and that the state would “be in big, big trouble very quickly” if she’s elected. Abrams, who graduated from Yale Law School and served for a decade in the Georgia Legislature, called Trump’s assessment “vapid and shallow.” (Read more)


Steve Bannon, former executive chairman of Breitbart News and former chief strategist for Trump, is planning his return to Europe where he will stoke the flames of nationalism. Bannon is expected to set up his headquarters for his campaign machine called “The Movement” in Brussels. It will be dedicated to helping populist hard-right parties win more seats in the European Parliament. Critics fear he could “do serious damage to public discourse” in Europe. (Read more)
